ESC Bolsters Management Team with series of Organizational Upgrades

Today, ESC has announced the promotion of three directors to vice president and the addition of a new executive vice president to its management team. The leading distributor of electrical supplies and fixtures welcomes executive vice president Doug Walo to oversee a team of vice presidents, Jim Crabtree, Bob Ryan, and John Murch, allowing the team to harness and expand the company’s significant growth.

“At ESC we recognize that while everyone has trucks and stock, we have our talented team to thank for our unmatched operational capability and booming sales,” said Larry LaFreniere, President at Electric Supply Center. “It gives me great pleasure to recognize Jim, Bob, and John’s impact on our success, bring Doug into the fold, and ultimately entrust this team of leaders to take ESC to the next level of supreme service.”

Doug Walo joins ESC as Executive Vice President with 31 years of industry experience. Walo will oversee the new management team while focusing on managing all sales and operational activities and working to develop and implement the company’s goals and growth strategies. Prior to joining ESC, Walo served as president of two west coast electrical distributors under the Sonepar Group.

Jim Crabtree, ESC’s new Vice President of Supply Chain, has accomplished much in his two years with the company. In his previous role as Director of Supply Chain, he successfully implemented distribution and vendor efficiency changes, expanded the company’s delivery fleet and number of orders delivered all while driving down operational cost.

Bob Ryan joined ESC in June 2013 and will now serve as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. During his time with ESC, he has created numerous marketing strategies and incentives, dramatically increasing his team’s work stock sales. Bob was also instrumental in the opening of ESC’s Mansfield office and Woburn branch.

John Murch brings decades of experience at ESC to his new role as Vice President of Projects. Having started as a part-time employee at 16 working in the lighting showroom, Murch joined ESC full-time in 1997 and has since ascended the ranks from behind the counter, to branch manager, to switchgear specialist. In his most recent role as Director of Projects, Murch oversaw the award and execution of some of Boston’s most complex projects, building a team of highly-respected industry veterans all the while.

The creation of this executive team will allow each vice president to dedicate increased focus to their segment, as Walo executes overarching growth strategies and enhances existing ones with an eye to penetrate new segments and open additional branches. This move represents a monumental step forward in ESC’s commitment to bring its unparalleled service to a wider audience of customers.

ESC Supports the 2017 Veterans Count Golf Tournament

3rd Annual Veterans Count Lakes Region Golf Tournament

The Lakes Region Chapter of the Veterans Count teamed up with Laconia Country Club in Laconia, NH for the 3rd Annual Veterans Count Lakes Region Golf Tournament. Taking place on Monday, July 17th, this year’s tournament hosted about 100 golfers and raised more than $82,000, which brings the 3 year tournament total to almost $250,000.

Every year the tournament supports Veterans Count, a program of Easterseals NH whose mission is to provide emergency financial assistance to veterans, service members and their families when no other resource is available to ensure their dignity, health and over all well-being. The Lakes Region Chapter was started in 2014 by a dedicated group of Veterans Count volunteers who have hosted the golf tournament each year.

Electric Supply Center (ESC) was one of the many groups providing financial support for Veterans Count. “It is important that we never take for granted all of the sacrifices our veterans, service members and their families, make each and every day,” stated ESC President, Larry LaFreniere. “It was an honor to once again be a part of such a great event that really brings attention to veterans and their needs.”

Help Team ESC support the 2017 Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital

Good afternoon,

US News has ranked Boston Children’s Hospital #1 for 2016, and while this is a great honor for the hospital, this awesome ranking is not enough for Children’s to continue to positively affect so many lives. Children’s needs our support as they forge ahead, investing in research and brand new facilities. The children who rely on BCH haven’t even experienced a fraction of life yet, with their good days being so different than good days we experience. While it is uplifting to see children at BCH with smiles, energy, and great enthusiasm, it is also sad to acknowledge the challenges they face. Your contribution will change the trajectory for so many kids…It will change their story.

Last year, ESC not only represented with a team, but also had a booth along the route so that we were able to meet with every walker along the way. With hospital staff, leadership, corporate partners and patient families all in attendance, the energy that this event exudes is beyond inspiring. The event will be held Sunday, June 11th at the Hatch Shell in Boston and is Boston Children’s Hospital’s largest fundraising initiative with a BBQ, live entertainment and a wide variety of family-friendly activities on-site.

Many of us including ESC employees, Vendors, Customers, families and friends pulled together to support the 2016 Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital by collectively raising over $7,000. This year, I encourage more partners to participate and help us reach a goal of $10,000. I’d like to invite you and your family to join us for this special day. Please consider getting involved.

To join Team ESC, visit http://fundraise.childrenshospital.org/goto/Team_ESC and click “Join our Team” to register.

Thank you in advance for your participation and support. I look forward to walking with you on June 11th!

Sincerely,

Larry LaFreniere

Choosing a Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detector for Your Home

no fire sign

Installing and maintaining a smoke and carbon monoxide detector is one of the best and least expensive ways that you can protect yourself and loved ones from danger. When you don’t correctly maintain your detector, you’re at risk for home fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, which can both be deadly. BRK offers a hardwired photoelectric/CO combination alarm for your home. As a new construction requirement for Massachusetts, this alarm comes with voice alerts.

Features of Smoke/CO Alarm

  • Photoelectric sensors are able to detect and identify various types of fire hazards in your home
  • Mounting bracket allows for easy installation and maintenance for alarm
  • Voice alarm allows up to 11 programmable locations
  • Varying and lower horn tones allows elderly with normal age related hearing loss to still hear the alarm
  • Alarm latch remembers which unit started the alarm
  • Low battery latch identifies which unit has a low battery

Regardless which type of alarm or brand you choose to protect your home, it’s important to remember to have one! It’s better to be over prepared with a dual-sensor alarm than not prepared at all. Learn more about the combo smoke and carbon monoxide alarm from BRK by contacting ESC at 781-272-7700.

Using Circuit Safety to Avoid Injuries

Whether you’re an electrician or contractor working on a commercial or residential property, electrical safety is important in any situation. One small mistake can be extremely harmful to not only yourself, but those around you as well. More and more, workers are being injured because they thought a circuit was turned off. Electricians and contractors should consider all circuits live until they are correctly tested.

To avoid electrical-related injuries, here are a few reminders of what to do before you touch a circuit:

  1. De-energize the circuit
  2. Lock out
  3. Tag out
  4. Test circuit
  5. Verify testing device

The steps below should be followed for every job to ensure you protect yourself and those around you:

  1. Before you begin the job, get information about the operations/construction of the electrical equipment you’ll be using.
  2. Ensure that everyone on your team is qualified to be working with electrical equipment and that any certifications are up to date.
  3. When you arrive at your job site, identify any and all energy sources that could be a potential hazard or danger.
  4. Make sure that you and your team are protecting yourself with the correct gear and equipment (googles, gloves, flame-resistant shirts, etc.).
  5. Follow the standard protection procedures (lockout/tagout).
  6. Verify that the electrical system has been de-energized by testing the circuit.
  7. Before and after you use your test equipment, be sure that it is actually working.

If you find that the job has become more dangerous than you initially anticipated, stop and review your plan. One of the most careless mistakes you can make is to assume that equipment is de-energized. Following the proper procedures can prevent injuries and death in some cases!
